The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned four suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of one of its operatives, Ekpeyong Asuquo Owoh.

The suspects were brought before the court to face allegations connected to the incident, which reportedly involved the kidnapping of the DSS operative before his death.

According to the allegations presented in court, the suspects are believed to have played various roles in the circumstances surrounding Owoh’s abduction and subsequent killing. The case forms part of ongoing efforts by security authorities to investigate violent activities allegedly linked to members of the proscribed group.

The arraignment marks a significant step in the legal process, but the suspects remain entitled to the presumption of innocence until the allegations against them are proven in court.

The development comes amid continued security operations targeting suspected criminal and violent networks in parts of southeastern Nigeria. Authorities have repeatedly said that individuals found culpable in acts of kidnapping, murder and other violent crimes will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Further proceedings in the case are expected to determine the evidence against the defendants and the direction of the trial.
